VL53L0X - IR penetration through polycarbonate

Hello, we are planning to assess VL53L0X to be used inside a polycarbonate casing, to measure the distance of an object, for e.g. a car parked over it. Can the IR penetrate through the plastic casing?

Sure.

Polycarbonate, Acrylic and PMMA are all perfectly fine coverglasses. Near I/R Photons go right through them.

But there is a limit. Try to design your coverglass so that it's as thin as you can make given your other constraints.

And try to jam the sensor as close to the glass as you can get it.

You will get some crosstalk - but it can be calibrated out.

Thanks for your response John. Does the PC have to be transparent to human eye? As the casing we have is black in color and opaque to human eye.
