After setting the heap size to 16 GB in the stm32cubeide.ini before finally not getting "out if memory" errors, opening the "Pinout Compatible" Dialog from an existing project consumes a little over 10 GB !
I found another thread where this was apparently fixed in CubeMX in 2022 (CubeIDE 1.9.0 has a heart attack on "loading compa... - STMicroelectronics Community), it seems to be back.

Does the standalone STM32CubeMX version work better?
I wouldn't expect updates to the bundled version. It is slated to be removed soon.

As @TDK mentioned please try using the standalone version of STM32CubeMX 6.16.0.
The integrated MX will be removed in the next release (STM32CubeIDE 2.0) , for more details please check the following LINK
