What wireless communication module with libraries (Wifi?)

Is there a wireless module or chip with libraries. The possibility of an external antenna is a plus, in case of metal box.

I tried NRF24 modules. they have libraries around the net but I could not get them to compile and of course mine have a built in antennas. Libraries from Waveshare have chinese comments, that does not help much. What I have heard, NRF chip have quite extensive register set. So I try to avoid programming them my self. ISM is relatively easy but I'd prefer Wifi The rest of the chip is programmed with cube or Arduino libraries, so those libraries should be compatible with that.
