What is HAL_GetHalVersion() really returning?

STM32Cube_FW_L4_V1.8.1 returns 1.7.1

STM32Cube_FW_F7_V1.7.0 returns 1.2.1

STM32Cube_FW_F1_V1.4.0 returns 1.0.4 

STM32Cube_FW_F4_V1.16.0 returns 1.7.1

So does this mean its all HAL 1. and the other numbers are implementation specific?

The

HAL_GetHalVersion function returns the HAL revision and not the

Cube firmware version.
