Hello STM32 fans,

Today ST officialy announced the STM32L4+ family of MCUs, which was discussed in this forum's thread. Here is the

http://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/about/media-center/press-item.html/p3980.html

. Key improvements of L4+ comparing to L4 are:
  • higher system clock: up to 120MHz
  • bigger memory: up to 2MB Flash and 640kB SRAM
  • new

    graphics features: Chrom-GRC

controller for circular displays, MIPI DSI interface

  • external memory interface improvements: OctoSPI and HyperBus

More information about MCUs and tools ecosystem you can find on

Yeah we're discussing it since this morning on a local mcu web, mainly the new

. User manual missing but we hope that's just temporary.

The question is: will the circular display be sold separately?

Thanks,

Szymon,

But for now I don't have any information, so unfortunately I can't confirm it.

If you can ask, please do so - and if you know any news on this, please let us know.

Thanks for the info and also for the link on the manufacturer.

AvaTar,

AFAIK the circulation of square happens in the display controller in 'L4+, its one of its distinguished feature.

I haven't time to read the RM yet (if available) just seen the marketing stuff as being linked to far above.

The description of this new Disco sounds interesting, yes.

The question is: will the circular display be sold separately?

My question - how did ST (or the supplier) manage it to square the circle ?

Well, 390x390 defines a square.

Does it mean that all pixels outside the circle (the blue one in your image) are not seen, and setting them has no effect ?

Probably really hard to define a video buffer for a circular display, display likely capable of dealing with the row/column issues, as lines likely run from the center up and down.

Hi,

Yes, I confirm you assumption. In line0 of the display first visible pixel is 181 and last visible pixel is 208. For more information please refer to the Application Note

http://www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/technical/document/application_note/group0/74/21/86/42/af/d5/4f/58/DM00407777/files/DM00407777.pdf/jcr:content/translations/en.DM00407777.pdf

: Graphic memory optimization with STM32 Chrom-GRC. You can find there a detailed explanation how Chrom-GRC works and the example is based on new 32L4R9IDISCOVERY kit.

The linked website + Data Brief says 390x390, which is usually be interpreted as common row/column design.

Going to check out the UM when it's up ...
