STM32F429 Discovery Board - Couldn't run I2C (HELP PLEASE!)

Hello everyone,

I am trying to do some examples on my STM32F429I_DISC0 board. I am new to ARM technologies. My goal is successfully connect something to my board but, I couldn't successfully do it. I thought maybe the problem was the device I connected to my board. So, I create a test device. I got myself two Arduino (1 Uno 1 Nano) and PCF8574T devices. First I create I2C between Arduino, and that was worked. So, I remove the slave Arduino and connect STM32 to PB6 and PB7 pin (as shown in CubeIDE for I2C-1). Connect them both ground too. I run the code for HAL_I2C_IsDeviceReady, but it doesn't show any value. I thought maybe there is a problem between Arduino and STM, so I switch Arduino with PCF8475T but that doesn't turn any value too.

*By the way, I forgot to say that, I thought maybe board PB6 and PB7 (I2C-1) may not work so I change the package with I2C-2 (PF0 & PF1). That doesn't work either.

SDA of PCF8574T is connected to PF0 and SCL is connected to PF1. the line is connected 5V via 4.7K resistors.

Per the user manual, PB6, PF0 and PF1 (among others) are used by the onboard SDRAM.

Try using I2C3 with PC9 and PA8 instead which are designated for external I2C.

The STM32F429I-DISCO has very few pins available for any functions. Most are soaked up by LCD and SDRAM.

There's a table in the User Manual.

Firstly, thanks for your kind response and your attention.

I switch the I2C2 to I2C3. As you said I checked the reference manual. I connect the Arduino a4, a5 pins since they are responsible for I2C at Arduino.

A5 -> PA8

A4 -> PC9

both terminals connected 5v (of Arduino) via 4.7k Resistor

the Arduino and STM ground connected together.

I wonder that is a wrong idea to use HAL_I2C_IsDeviceReady for Arduino?

For the time I activate, HSE -> Ceramic Resonator

In Sys, Debug -> Serial Wire
