Connecting to the STM32 via an ST-LINKV/2

Hello everyone,

I am currently designing an electronic board with an embedded STM32F217IG on it. I would like to interface my board with my computer through the ST-LINKV/2. I know it is an on chip debugger but is this component also capable of simply program the STM32 or just doing debugging? It might seem a little dumb but I know some debbugger don't allow the user to flash they just allow to debug and the board stop when you unplug the debugger. I don't know if I'm clear about what I'm asking? Also I have another question about the connector on my board. The pin-out of the ST-LINK seems to be a classic JTAG. Am i right? It can for sure erase/program your custom board. Saying that, I mean with the help of some PC software, like the ST-Link Utility, or an IDE that supports the ST-Link. Regarding to the hardware, I would take the Discovery boards as template.Also I have another question about the connector on my board. The pin-out of the ST-LINK seems to be a classic JTAG. Am i right? Not sure which ST-LINK you mean here. The separately sold ''ST-Link'' debug adapter is capable of JTAG and SWD. The builtin variant in the discovery boards is SWD only.
