STWBC2-HP and STWLC99 with STSC protocol

NickA
Associate II

I am developing a solution using a STWBC2-HP tx running from a 24VDC supply to drive a STWLC99 rx and need to use the STSC protocol to achieve 50~100W. This is for bespoke power transfer rather than a conventional charger. I am basing the design on the steval-wbc2tx50 datasheet with ratings upgraded for the extra power. Also referring to '100w-wireless-charging-solution-based-on-stwbc2-hp-and-stwlc99-rayna-wang.pdf' from ST's website.

Does the STSC protocol require Qi1.3 (ie does it need STSAFE-A110) and how do I enable this?

Do I just need to configure the current and voltage parameters via the UART for this power level?

Thanks.

Dear NickA,

ST has decided to keep only 4 products in its roadmap: STWLC38 and STWLC89 for Rx, STWBC86 and STWBC2-HP for Tx. The STWLC99 is not available anymore, and we do not propose this levels of power anymore. The max power achievable using STWBC-HP + STWLC89 is now 30W, still based on STSC protocol. Qi 1.3 or STsafe are not needed.
The level of support from ST will also depend on the project itself, please contact your distributor so that they can guide you.

Thanks for the reply, Didier.

This design is for a proof-of-concept prototype and is nearly complete, based on information from ST's website. I have already purchased the STWBC2-HP and STWLC99 through the PCB builder and, as such, I don't have a distributor.

The STEVAL-WBC2TX50 datasheet (Feb 2024) refers to the STWBC2-HP driving 100W with suitable driver circuitry and the STEVAL-WLC99RX datasheet (Feb 2024) refers to the STWLC99JR handling 100W Rx. Accepting that this is no longer an official ST configuration, my question becomes is there anything in the firmware or in STSW-WPSTUDIO that would lock me out from using this power level? Does STSW-WPSTUDIO still support this solution?

Hello NickA,

The GUI will not prevent you from going up to 100W. But the STSC mode requires specific scripts on receiver side.

If you don't have these scripts, I can provide it to you with relevant documentation.

Please open a case on st.com (https://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/support/support-home.html#), you ticket should be re-directed to me and I will be able to support you directly.

Hi Didier,

Thank you again for the reply. I have opened a ticket for this. Any help on this project is much appreciated.

Hi Didier,

I submitted a support request last week (#00249362) and I'm hoping that it's been forwarded to you. Would you please confirm?

Thanks.
