The VN5E050MJ-E is used as a over current protections devices. We monitor the current via the current mirror output and disable the device when the current reaches the preset threshold. The threshold is well below the max rated current of the device <50%.
The load is not inductive, but does supply power to several DC-DC converters.
Every once and a while the chip blows up, literally. I have yet to get a grip on the problem, I can't even reliably reproduce it.
If anyone has any clues to common fail modes I would like to hear about them. I am hoping they would give me a clue as to where to start.
Thanks for you time. Please reply with any questions.
