Dear Sir,
We are manufacturer of hotel automation products in India. We intend to use ACST (AC Switch Triac) in two applications. For On/Off control (to replace electromechanical relays) and for phase control of light / fan dimming application.
We wish to know your opinion to solve two problems faced by us.
Problem 1
After using the ST AC Switch Simulator application Schematic-I is as attached.
We have a practical constraint using this schematic. As independent neutral wire is not available near the electrical load because it is a common practice in hotel industry to loop neutral and earth of all the lamps, fan, Fan coil unit (FCU), curtain motor, etc.
Please note that only phase wire is available for every electrical load which enters our product and it is either switched or dimmed. Due to above constraint we are using Schematic-II.
However we have noticed that the failure of Triac is high. As per our assessment it could be because of two reasons. Either due to error in schematic-II or due to absence of inductor (to suppress harmonics / di/dt). Please comment.
Problem 2
We are also finding it difficult to select the inductor – type of core, material, characteristics, etc.
Please suggest recommended make for ACST devices.
