Role of the mpu unit

Hi there,

Can someone explain what is the role of the mpu?

From what i understand, it is only for OS purposes, meaning that whatever the mpu configuration is made at boot time, can be changed again by the user from an interrupt handler. Is this right?

And so, it not about code protection. I would like to protect some data areas, for example to disable reads in some region . But as i understand it, the user could disable the protection from an interrupt handler, right?

Is anything i can do about that? For example to configure a data region as ''non readable'' during boot, and then forbit the user for discarding this restriction from his code.
