Unexpected High Inrush Current in DC-DC Converter Startup

Hello everyone,
I’m currently working on a DC-DC buck converter design using the [insert IC name, e.g., ST1PS03] for a low-power embedded system. During startup, I’m noticing a very high inrush current that causes voltage dips on the input rail.

Here are some key details:

  • Input voltage: 12V

  • Output voltage: 5V

  • Load: ~500mA

  • Input capacitor: 47µF

  • Output capacitor: 22µF

I’ve tried adjusting the soft-start capacitor and increasing the input capacitance, but the issue persists. Could this be related to the internal startup sequence or control loop behavior?

Any suggestions or application notes addressing this behavior would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!
