Remember that so-called "AI" applications really have no understanding of the subject matter at all - they are just glorified search engines.
So it's up to you to weigh what they say in the light of actual scientific & engineering principles.
MODBUS is well-established and widely-used - there must be plenty of good references & examples available ...
A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.
A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.
