Recalibration of 2 kinds of sensor, ASM330LHH and IIS2MDCTR, Do they need recalibration after running for a certain/long time ?

1) ASM330LHH is accelerometer and Gyroscope sensor and do we need to recalibrate it after running for a certain/long time?

If need recalibration, how long time gap between 2 recalibrations

2) IIS2MDCTR Magnetic is magnetometer sensor and do we need to recalibrate it after running for a certain/long time ?

If need recalibration, how long time gap between 2 recalibrations

Thanks

Hi @Hz1.1 ,

There is not a time-frame prescription for a periodical calibration of the sensors, in principle. It depends on the usage, the algorithms and the exposure to shocks. For a consistency check of the correct working status of ST sensors, it is common use to run the embedded self test.

1) for the ASM330LHH accelerometer, it is important to calibrate it after soldering, or at the beginning of your tests. It depends on how often you use it in your application and calculations, especially if your device is subjected to shocks. If you use it in integration algorithms (for example to extract displacement or angle information from acceleration and angular rate), it is useful to often calibrate the device. For the self test procedure, please refer to app note AN5296, p.64.

2) for the IIS2MDCTR magnetometer, it depends on the exposure to any external (strong in the sense of > Full Scale) magnetic field: it is better to run the calibration for sure before using magnetic info for quaternions or ecompass calculations. For the self test procedure, please refer to the datasheet, p.9.
