I was hoping it would come out before I retired - because it would be fun to support.
But as good as ST was to me, I finally gave in and retired.
So I don't have the info I used to have. But I do know the system.
Go to ST.com and click on "Sample and Buy". From that list find someone who can help you.
ST really would like to work directly with a few key customers who can help them put the final finishing touching on the software. Your job would be to convince the ST marketing group that you are just that sort of company.
I'm absolutely sure they would prefer some big cellphone company or a laptop manufacture, but maybe you have some unique app that would make working with you a good idea.
Give it a shot. If nothing else, that sales guy will call you first when the part gets close.

Dear John,
just an another guy with the same question about the VL53L9CX Sensor.
Is the planned release for the end of this year still on schedule? : )
We need to know, because one of our project depends on this one..
Many thanks in advance and best regards

Alas, I've retired. I was hoping to do that after the L9 got released, but that didn't work out.
ST would be very happy if all their parts got bought in massive quantities by cell phone or PC customers. They just are not set up to deal with 'normal' customers.
So they work through distributors and some outside sales to work with all those thousands of customers that don't buy parts by the truckload.
You need a someone who can get you the right information. And you need to convince that distributor or sales guy that you are a good business partner and would eventually buy a lot of parts.
You can contact Arrow, Avnet or FutureElectronics if you don't have a distributor.
Or you can go to the Sample and Buy section of the ST web site. Pick someone near you.
Unfortunately you cannot count on me any more. I still care, I'm just not employed anymore.
