Hello,
I want to know what is the latest Chromium version supported by OpenST Linux on Scarthgap.
Do we have GPU acceleration on it?
Thank you in advance,
Hiba

The ST Dev Team is working on a solution for that.
They said they will find a solution in half of 2025.
What ST have tried is to build a minimal chromium web browser by using Qt Web Engine, which use the same web engine as Chromium. They have run that Qt Nano Web browser in kiosk mode, e.g no buttons and input text boxes. It works like a charm.
My advice is to look for Gentoo Use flags to see what you can use with compilation for Firefox. They have a lot of flags you can use to optimize a web browser by using the same web engine as Firefox is using.
I'm working on a Github project for creating an optimal web browser for MP2.

I am currently working on bringing up Chromium on a custom board based on STM32MP255C, using OpenSTLinux 6.2 (Scarthgap).
Platform: STM32MP255C (custom board)
Distribution: OpenSTLinux 6.2 (Scarthgap)
Goal: Run a Chromium-based browser with GPU acceleration (Wayland/Weston or equivalent)
Chromium support status
What is the latest Chromium version officially supported on OpenSTLinux 6.2 for STM32MP25?
Is there any validated configuration for Chromium on this platform?
Layer availability
Does ST provide or maintain a Yocto layer (meta-chromium or equivalent) compatible with OpenSTLinux 6.2?
If yes, could you share:
the repository
the branch
or the exact commit used internally
GPU acceleration
Is GPU acceleration supported with Chromium on STM32MP25?
If yes:
which backend is expected (Wayland, X11, EGL, Ozone-Wayland, etc.)?
are there specific patches or configurations required?
Recommended approach
Is Chromium currently a supported use case, or is the recommended approach still:
Qt WebEngine
or another browser stack?
I noticed discussions indicating that Chromium support is still under development for MP25. I would like to understand the current official position and whether there is any internal or experimental layer already available for OpenSTLinux 6.2.
Thank you in advance for your support.

From my side, I have the impression that we still do not have a clear answer.
If ST already has an internal Chromium layer, branch, patches, or a validated configuration, even experimental, it would be very useful to share it with the community.
At least then we could test it, contribute, report issues, and help move the subject forward.
For now, it feels like the topic exists internally, but there is no public repository or concrete reference that users can build from, which is quite disappointing.
So yes, I am also very interested in the current status, especially whether Chromium is realistically usable on MP2 with GPU acceleration or not.
Best regards,
Yassine
