STM32G491 MCU Power Delivery Specification

Hi STM Team,

We are planning to use STM32G491 MCU in our application. As per datasheet, it is mentioned that STM32G491 MCU will support USB PD 3.0.

We have come across the below STM document where it is mentioned that "STM32 UCPD MCUs are compliant with the latest USB PD r3.1 specifications" and EPR support is there.

Could you please confirm, whether STM32G491 MCU supports USB PD 3.1 and Extended Power Range Support(upto 240W).

Warm Regards,

Mythili B

Hi @MB.13

Yes, the STM32G491 MCU supports the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.1 specification, including features like Extended Power Range (EPR) for up to 240W. However, this support is contingent on using an updated software stack, such as the X-CUBE-TCPP middleware, which implements the USB PD 3.1 standard.

Support for USB PD 3.1, including features like Extended Power Range (EPR) (up to 240W), is primarily determined by the software stack rather than the UCPD hardware itself. The USB PD 3.1 standard introduces new messaging and behaviors, such as EPR mode, which are implemented in the software stack like X-CUBE-TCPP.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you also please suggest any port protection ICs like TCPP01-M12 for EPR(240W) sink applications.

We have seen in the datasheet of TCPP01-M12, where maximum voltage is 24V. But for our EPR application, max Voltage atleast protection IC should support 48V.
