Can ST25R3911B emulate a ISO14443-A card?

Hello!

I am new to this forum and I have a reasonable doubt regarding ST25R:

We need to evaluate ST25R3911 for a new development where the main goal is that mobile phones (both Android and iOS) could read it as an ISO14443-A card. We would like to configure an NDEF as a NFCForum type 2 for example and the mobile phones read this as a card. This is because as far I know, iOS doesn´t let P2P and only can read cards...

We do not find any info about emulation in Rfal driver so we are afraid that it is not possible with this chip.

Do you have any idea?

If it would be possible, Can we use ST25R3911B-DISCO software to configure it and test it?

Best regards,

J-RAM

Hi J-RAM,

Although ST25R3911B and ST25R3916 pinouts are similar they are not pin compatible.

Indeed, once the ST25R3916 becomes available, the drivers will be published as well (including CE support).

The RFAL library supports all ST25R ICs, and its APIs are chip independent. Therefore all development done using RFAL with the ST25R3911B will be compatible with any ST25R device.

Regarding CE specifically, the Listen Mode is already available for ST25R3911B (AP2P only), and the CE shares the same APIs.

Kind regards

Hi J-RAM,

Yes, card emulation (CE) is not possible to be achieved using the ST25R3911B as it does not support Load modulation.

The ST25R3911B is a High performance HF reader / NFC initiator and can only perform as a Target in Active P2P communication mode.

Many thanks by your answer Grégoire,

I am a bit loss now... which options could we have instead ST25R3911B into ST? Any other transceiver?

Best regards,

J-RAM

Hi,

there are a number of products available from the ST25 Tag family: ST25TV/DV, ST25TA and M24SR.

Hi J-RAM,

If you are still interested on a fit for the ST25R3911B with CE support, you may consider the upcoming ST25R3916 which is under characterization and Engineering samples are now available.

Hi Ulysses,

I am reading about these but I think that none of these match to be used on our product. We are looking for a Reader/writer with Automatic Antenna Tunning capable to be used as card emulation.

Hello Grégoire,

This device seems what we need, if it has same pinout than R3911B then is perfect! I will take an eye on it and see if I can get a couple of engineering samples or an eval board.

By the way, I guess that ST team is making an API for it , nowadays is not available for download so, Could be use it with 3911B API (supporting only 3911B features)?

Do you now when would be released 3916 API with CE support?

Best regards,

J-RAM
