VN920SP-E replacement

IWG

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is any pin to pin replacement for VN920SP-E?

VN920SP-E is obsolete now, and one of our main products needs this to function.

Any help would be appreciated.

The VN5E006ASP-E (packaged in tubes) is indeed discontinued, but the VN5E006ASPTR-E (packaged in tape/reel) is still in production.

Please note the difference between Production and current Availability. The latter is always a temporary, non-technical problem, which cannot be answered here, but only via the preferred distributor.

Welcome @IWG, to the community!

I am extremely sorry to confirm that the VN920SP-E has indeed been discontinued without direct replacement.
Depending on your requirements, you could look at the VN5E006ASP-E, which should fit essentially the same footprint, but has some different parameters, including the following:

  • DC supply voltage max 28V instead of 41V before
  • ON state resistance approx. half as large
  • different current sense ratio

The additional pin DE can float, so the function is basically the same as that of the VN920SP except for the modified parameters.

Hope that helps?

Regards
/Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply.

As of July 21st 2023 according to Digikey, VN5E006ASP-E is obsolete. Is this true?

Hello,

Wouldn't VN540SP be an alternate part to the obsolete VN920SP device (having the same footprint)?

If so, why wouldn't that device be suggested as an alternate?

Also, what notable differences in parameters would you feel is necessary to point out to be aware of?

Thanks very much in advance.

@LIslander The VN540SP-E is no replacement for the VN920SP-E, because the VN540SP-E is:

  • not automotive certified
  • pin 8 is a digital STATUS, not an analog Current SENSE
  • only drives about 2.8A, while the VN920SP-E has a limit at about 30A
  • not CMOS compatible (VIH >3.5V vs >3.25V @VN920SPE-E)

(just to mention a few crucial points)

Does it answer your questions?

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the quick response.

In our Non-automotive circuitry for a bench test set assembly, we are not utilizing pin 8 at all (floating), and we are driving the input at pin 7 with a voltage of approx +4.4v coming from pin 2 of a 74ABT04 device, which has an output current rated at 40mA Max.  Our max output current draw (under load) from the device would be no greater than 450mA.

With these operating values, would we be able to utilize the VN540SP-E device instead of VN920SP-E?

Well, with these restrictions, the VN540SP-E should be able to be used instead of the VN920SP-E in your specific case.

Please note, however, that you have a completely different problem than the TO had: he wanted to replace the VN920SP-E, which only a driver of the same or better parameters can do without specifying any restrictions. This may work for you, but probably not for him, which is why it would have been better to start a separate thread with your requirements.

Anyway, I hope your question has been answered?
