How to identify an original TDA7294 ? any marking or way to check? Or multimeter test reading? Please tell me the way to identify an original tda7294 ic.

Identifying fake TDA7294 ICs involves inspecting physical characteristics, such as pin thickness, laser marking quality, and weight, as well as conducting electrical, power, and thermal tests. Original TDA7294 chips are typically produced by STMicroelectronics and are designed for high-power Class AB audio amplification (up to 100W, ±40V DC).
Here are the key tests and indicators based on industry findings:

1. Physical Inspection (Visual)
  • Legs/Pins: Original TDA7294 chips generally feature thicker, sturdier, and sometimes copper-colored pins (or high-quality tin plating) compared to fake ones which often have thin, fragile pins.
  • Laser Marking: Authentic ICs have clear, deep, and well-aligned laser-engraved text. Fakes often have faint, uneven, or easily scratched-off printed text.
  • Material Quality: The plastic housing of a real IC is matte and high-quality, while counterfeits may have a shiny or lower-quality, rough plastic finish.

2. Electrical and Power Tests
  • Maximum Voltage Handling: A real TDA7294 should comfortably handle up to ±40V DC or slightly higher (with appropriate heat sinking). Fakes often overheat and fail at lower voltages, such as ±30V or lower.
  • Power Output: Perform an RMS power test. A real TDA7294 is capable of delivering 100 watts into a 4-ohm load with roughly ±30V DC. If the chip burns out or significantly drops voltage at lower power levels, it is likely a fake.
  • Pin Configuration Check: Check for inconsistencies in pin functions. Counterfeits sometimes use different chip architectures entirely.

3. Thermal and Audio Testing
  • Thermal Conductivity: Original TDA7294 ICs have a high-quality metal tab that transfers heat efficiently. A fake IC with a subpar internal die will overheat immediately, even with a large heatsink.
  • Sound Quality: The TDA7294 is known for crystal-clear sound, similar to tube amplifiers. A noisy, distorted, or weak output indicates a counterfeit or a lower-tier IC re-marked as a TDA7294.

4. Other Indicators
  • Price: If the price is significantly lower than that of authorized distributors (like Farnell or Element14), it is likely fake.
  • Weight: Often, original chips are slightly heavier due to more robust internal components.
Summary Table of Differences

Before soldering, it is highly recommended to use a multimeter to check for short circuits between the power supply pins () and ground.
Key Multimeter Tests to Identify Fake/Defective TDA7294:
  • Resistance Check (Short Circuits): Set the multimeter to ohms  or continuity mode. Measure between the ground pin and pins 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15. Any low resistance or continuity reading suggests an internal short circuit, which is common in fake or blown TDA7294 chips.
  • Diode/Junction Check (Before Soldering): Test the pins using the diode setting to check for proper semiconductor junctions.
    • Pin 14 (Output) often shows diode-like readings, while Pin 15 might show no reading.
    • If you find that many pins show continuity to each other or to ground, the chip is likely defective or fake.

this is the ic, No pin shorted, from tab to 1 to 12 Digital clamp meter in ohm mode shows tab to pin 1 to pin 10, 3.63 M OHM to 4.40 M OHM  13-14 from tab shows 2.80-290 m ohm , pin 5,11,12 No connection each other or from Tab, and pin 15 from tab 4.15 m ohm, Seller sold it to me by telling Original ic, positive prob on tab, all pin work like diode, if nagative prob on tab then no reading except pin 8, pin 8 only short with tab.

I have searched the image of tda7294 then I found multiple types of images sometimes G print on ic sometimes not, after it I'm confused that how it possible? Is it can a sign of a genuine ic?? A pic got TF print on the place of G!

If company share the details of process that how can I read the ic manufacturing date, place, batch number by watching codes on ic:face_with_rolling_eyes: :face_with_rolling_eyes: ,then I greatful to STME.

I had a transformer that 15-0-15 ac 3amp, and this is running on this voltage, but heating issue exists, heatsink size is 110x50x13mm and after 30 mints running on it temp approximately 45-50°c got, is it correct tem? Or much heating? As per 15v on 5-6ohm speaker load?

So its working fine - right ?  -> no fake.

temp : at 15vac you get about +/- 22V dc , ~  40W max on 5 r.

If you want it more cool, need bigger cooler.

Whats the °/W  value of your heat sink ? Then easy to calculate the expected temp.

Just from my time, building power amps : for a average loss of 30W you need a big heat sink,

i used some like 300 x 80 x 40mm size ....to keep the amp under 40° . (2 x 100W amp)

>I found multiple types of images

These are "old" amps , from y 2003 on, produced/packed in different locations, so various labeling possible.

This question is for directly to ST that I had measured tda7294 and I got 5.59grams a ic in weight, a original tda7294 how much weight? Is this correct? I want answer from St stuffs who knows all about of this ic. Tell me is this weight correct? And I got two ic and print is different code and different lazer one is very deep print another one is light print,as you can see the attached pic. Both purchased from different sellers and different places. Left code is CZAK5433 and Right side is CZPKD403 is both are original??
