Anyone tested the 5 Pin HY-SRF05 Ultrasonic Module for stable distance sensing?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a small obstacle avoidance setup for a robot project and came across the 5 Pin HY-SRF05 Ultrasonic Module. It’s similar to the HC-SR04 but with an additional OUT pin and claims higher accuracy, up to 3mm, with a range between 2cm and 450cm.

Before I start integrating it, I’d like to ask for feedback from anyone who has used this module:

  • How reliable is the distance reading compared to the HC-SR04?

  • Does the extra OUT pin provide any practical advantage when connected to Arduino or ESP32 boards?

  • Have you noticed any signal noise or unstable readings when objects have uneven or non-flat surfaces?

  • Can it handle outdoor conditions, or is it best kept indoors?

I’m planning to test it for both robotics and water-level monitoring applications, so consistency and stability are pretty important.

Any tips or shared sketches would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Again, this has nothing to do with ST:

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.
A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.
