Difference Between CX and CH models - St's ToF

EOBD
Associate II

I'm looking to integrate a ToF into our product for gesture recognition. I have my eyes on the
VL53L8CH, VL53L8CX and the previous VL53L7CH, VL53L7CX. I understand the difference between the different generations. But I've been all over the datasheet, and yet I can't find the difference between the so call "AI enabling" CH ones, and the "High Performance" CX ones. Is there an actual difference, or is it just a marketing gimmick.

Thanks!

The CH chips are specially chosen because they are guaranteed to run the more demanding software and still meet the framerate specifications.

The CX versions will run the CH software but are not guaranteed to do so.

If you build lots of devices, you might have unacceptable fallout rates. And nobody wants that.

For testing you can get away with swapping them, but in production, go with the CH.
