What connector and version of USB is preferred for the STM32L552 MCU? USB C, micro B USB, etc...?

We are building a test card for a host that embeds the STM32L552 microcontroller in it. The data lines are broken out and VDDUSB is tied to the same voltage as the VDD for the MCU. Do we need to use VBUS in this case? Please advise.
