Optical Enocders in STR712

Hi,

I am using a quadrature optical encoder for running a DC motor. As the STR712 is a 32 bit MCU, do I need to interface a HCTL-2016 decoder to the STR 712? Sorry to trouble you with such a fundamental question.

Please clarify your question. What do you mean by 'do I need to interface a HCTL-2016 decoder to the STR 712'? And what does the fact that STR712 is a 32-bit MCU has to do with it?
