Is ST25RU3993 suitable for long distance readings?

Ps: I saw https://community.st.com/s/question/0D50X0000BWnXe0SQF/st25ru3993-antenna , but it was not enough.

I'm interested in testing the https://www.st.com/en/nfc/st25ru3993.html , but I couldn't find information concerning antenna support. Have anyone used this module to accomplish long distance UHF readings? Can I achieve it with ST25RU3993?

I'm searching for

  • a long distance UHF reader, 2 Km <= kilometres <= 10 Km ;
  • a "not so short" distance UHF reader, 2 m <= meters <= 10 m;

Which antennas have you used? Everything goes well?

Thanks!

Hello,

I am sorry, but for a read range between 2 km and 10 km I would suggest to look into a different kind of technology for sure it should be some kind of active tech.

ST25RU3993 can well support reader for ranges between 2 and 10 meters.

Cheers,

B

Hello Bart,

Thank you for the answer.

As far as I'm concerned, the module doesn't come with an antenna,

right? I'm search for a good quality yet not expensive antenna which I

can use with ST25RU3993 in order to achieve a reading distance of,

let's say, at least 2 meters.

Could someone point me one (or two)?

Thanks!

Hello jcbrtl,

the kit comes with a near field antenna which allows you to read tags in the centimeter range only.

For a start check:

  • Times7
  • Poynting
  • Laird
  • MTI Wireless Edge Ltd.
  • etc...

For sure there a many more providers for good quality antennas!

Cheers,

B
