Terrible horrific problems with CubeIDE 1.17. I am SAD.

Hi boys and girls from ST company - capitalistic USA country,

I installed your new CubeIDE 1.17 today and I ascertained that:

1/ If I open a project everything is closed - no window is visible. If I try to close the project, the project is NOT closed and moreower I can even COMPILE !!! and debug and to programm the closed project :) It is very cute.

Whe I was very young we had a car "Škoda MB100" (green color). It was very magic car. If there were lack of water in the main cooler and if the car engine was hot enough e.g. approx. 100°C I could remove the ignition key from ignition box, but the car engine runs gaily without stopping :)   :) :) :) :)  And this situation continued even if I removed the car battery 12V/64Ah :) :) :) :)  YES !!!

2/ I tried to change dark gray text color background in C/C++ editor and ... surprisingly ...  it is NOT possible. See video here:

It is very cute situation. (download is free of charge)

Can you please repair ALL problems ?

Many thanks

Jerry

Show a screenshot where "everything is closed" after opening a project. Is Project Explorer window shown? If not, open it using Window -> Show View -> Project Explorer.

Relevance??

You can change the theme in Window -> Preferences -> General -> Appearance

There are more fine grained ways to customize the theme. Search for "eclipse change font color" or similar. However, if you are unable to open a project, it seems like changing the background color should not be a priority.

Hello @JerryMC22 ,

1/ Close STM32CubeIDE completely (End job in Task Manager) and restart it. This might help in refreshing the IDE and resolving any temporary glitches.

The dark mode in CubeIDE is great idea, but the "gary" text background ? really ?

I would expect black text backgroud.

Really - you have to set it to ...what you like more.

Hi Jerry,

Your Škoda MB100 analogy made my day :D CubeIDE behaving like a self-powered engine is definitely not expected.

On point 1, this sounds like a UI state/workspace corruption issue. A few users have fixed similar behavior by:

Starting CubeIDE with a new workspace

Or resetting the UI via Window → Perspective → Reset Perspective

If that fails, deleting the workspace metadata (.metadata folder) usually restores normal project open/close behavior.

For point 2, unfortunately you’re right CubeIDE 1.17 still has limitations in editor theming, especially around background/foreground contrast. It’s a known Eclipse-based limitation unless ST exposes more theme controls. Best workaround so far is switching between predefined dark themes or adjusting OS-level contrast.

Hopefully ST will repair these quirks soon whether it’s IDEs or real-world systems, good diagnostics and maintenance matter. Same mindset applies outside software too, from embedded tools to everyday fixes like appliance troubleshooting (I’ve seen similar “won’t turn off” behavior there as well):

Good luck, and thanks for the entertaining bug report

Hi prdík IsabellaAva,

yes our family car: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%A0koda_100     really worked without battery and without ignition key to be inserted into the ignition box if the main engine temperature overcame 100°C. It was sacialistic era :) everything was "magic" :)  Your CubeIDE is really terrible. I understand that ST company has VERY limited budged but such behaviour is really "catastrophic". If I close any project everything regarding the project must be closed as well. There is MS VisualStudio. What about move your "ST company" effort to VisualStudio ? Be part of MS VS development team ? There is MS VisualStudioCode - not such perfect as adult/matured MS VS but still perfect.

In our country we have also brutal-spontaneous-american capitalism (fashistic capitalism), we have 350000 unemployed citizens and 100000 homeless persons. I believe that such huge army would be able to "rebuild" your shame - functionless CubeIDE.
