Summary
This overview is created to assist you on building a PCB design. STMicroelectronics recommends to utilize these resources available for your design. See below for a list of resources to assist you.
Documents
Getting started application notes, with some generic examples and tips:
AN5031: Getting started with STM32MP151, STM32MP153 and STM32MP157 line hardware development
AN5474: Getting started with STM32MP13x line hardware development
AN5489: Getting started with STM32MP25x MPUs hardware development
For a review, STMicroelectronics provides a checklist and some tips.
The PCB layout guidelines
AN5431: The STPMIC1 PCB layout guidelines
Soldering
AN2639: Soldering recommendations and package information for lead-free ECOPACK MCUs and MPUs
PCB Layout examples for DDR DRAM and STM32MPx
The links below contains zip files with Altium projects with different DDR topologies and DDR types, different MPU packages available.
STM32MP15x Series DDR memory routing guidelines examples
STM32MP13x Series DDR memory routing guidelines examples
STM32MP2 Series DDR memory routing guidelines examples
These links can also be found in the ST web site of the STM32MPUx page, under "HW model" in the tab "CAD resources".
STMicroelectronics recommends to reuse the STMicroelectronics design examples below. Notice that signal and power integrity tests have been run for an optimal design.
The Altium projects of the ST references boards
The list of the existing STM32MPx demo boards can be found on the ST wiki page:
https://wiki.st.com/stm32mpu/wiki/Category:STM32_MPU_boards
To find the Altium projects on the ST web page of each board, look in the tab "CAD resources".
Sanity check document
This is a list of checks points on different aspects for the user to double check on point where we frequently observe errors. The documents cover different topics like power supply domains, system control signals (reset line, wakeup pins, clocks between STM32MPU and STPMIC), flash boot device configurations, USB sub-system, Ethernet, etc.
"Schematic sanity check MP1.docx" is available here
"Schematic sanity check MP2.docx" is available here
Alternatives
Depending on customer competencies and product quantities, customer can contact ST partners:
The list of partners are available on st.com through the MPU product page, or by clicking these links:
We also recommend reading about about System-on-Module (SOM) or System-in-Package (SIP) offers.
