SWIM Error [30006] STVD / Cosmic

Hi everyone,

I am working on a project using an STM8S003F3 MCU with ST Visual Develop (STVD), Cosmic C Compiler, an

d a clone ST-Link V2 programmer.

I am having an issue with debugging. When attempting to start a debug session in STVD, I get the following error:

Connection error (usb://usb): swim error [30006]: comm init error: chip does not answer.

Important details:

• If I open ST Visual Programmer (STVP) and perform a few Read/Write attempts, STVP eventually starts working and can read and program the chip without issues.

• However, after doing this, only programming works—debugging in STVD still fails completely.

• Additionally, in STVP, the Erase button is grayed out and disabled.

• Signal levels and waveforms look fine at a quick glance on the scope (though I haven't done an in-depth signal integrity check yet).

• I have used a similar ST-Link clone setup before without any issues.

Could this be caused by the ST-Link clone, or is it possible that the STM8 chip itself is a counterfeit/clone? Has anyone experienced a similar issue or have any advice on how to solve this?

Well, ST cannot and will not make any statement about illegal clones of the ST-LINK/V2. If you do not have written confirmation of the origin of the STM8S003, it could be a clone as well. For questions about clones, you would therefore need to contact the respective supplier.

However, we will be happy to help you here with original ST devices.
