VL53L8CX ToF Sensor Integration with KW47-EVK via I²C – I²C Communication Not Working

Hello Team,

I am trying to integrate the VL53L8CX ToF sensor with the NXP KW47 EVK using the I²C interface.

For the sensor software, I am using the publicly available VL53L8CX SDK from the following GitHub repository:

https://github.com/stm32duino/VL53L8CX

I have ported the required platform-specific code to the KW47.

According to the VL53L8CX datasheet, I have configured the I²C address as 0x52/0x53 (8-bit write/read address). However, during communication, the sensor is NACKing the address at the 9th clock pulse of SCL.

I have also verified the sensor supply voltages and confirmed that the required voltage levels are present.

I have attached a few snapshots of the I²C frame captured using a picoscope while debugging, particularly showing the address phase and the NACK occurring on the 9th SCL clock.

Could you please help me identify what could be causing the NACK during the I²C address phase?

Thank you.

Hi:

Kindly suggest checking the initialization sequence of sensor. The sensor is a bit complex, but the I2C part of it is dead simple. If the sensor is powered on, and the LPn is high, and the I2C/SPI line is set correctly, you should get a response.

Also, I think this is similar to the issue in this post (VL53L1X returns 0x00 instead of 0xEA on PIC18F16Q41 hardware I2C | Community), you can refer to it and don’t hesitate to contact us if needed.
