powerStep01 configuration guide?

I'm having trouble getting a powerStep01 configured to run in step clock mode on top of a Nucleo F411RE. Mostly configured as required, but as soon as I try to enable it (hardstop) it throws an OCD and drops out of step mode. Is there a guide/exmple config anywhere?

there's an expansion board with the powerstep01 and if you scroll down, you can click on 'embedded software' to download the example code for it. perhaps it has what you need.
