I soldered this on to my board and I saw that it is working

( I downloaded code and tried some peripherals )

I could not check all the functions yet

my question ;

this big price difference makes me suspicious

is this second picture genuine or clone ?

did you experience this second ICs ?

can I trust this second ICs ?

whats your opinion ?

thank you

Interesting.

I wonder hot to spot the difference - what kind of test to perform.

I do not like fake chips. I recall many issues with FT232 and the driver problems...

The STM32F103C8T6-based blue pill board costs ~2USD. Including shipment costs. How is it possible without using fake chips...?

There is a reality distortion field that creates pricing specific to China that is different to RoW (Rest-of-World) pricing.

There is also a lot of fake and dubious stuff going on. Thankfully we finally have people in charge that see the damage this type of behaviour has caused, and the uneven playing field it has created.

It is about time some people in ST get punished for seeking their stuff too low in China.

Or you are suggesting that China forced ST to sell its stuff too low there? If so, I wonder why our governments didn't do the same for us.

My company have a scare about this a few years ago.

We had to write a policy of only purchasing through major distributors like Arrow and DigiKey.

We asked DigiKey to elaborate on their purchasing criteria.

Digi has confirmed in writing that all purchases are direct from the manufacturer, NONE of the product it holds is counterfeit.

This was necessary for Digi being a large supplier for the defense forces.

I would be surprised to see a clone of such a significant chip. albeit tiny in today's terms.

much better to pay the proper price and then you know what you are getting.

It is common place these days to the sweatshops around the world to lift all the chips of every motherboard and resell them as refurbished chips. ( some processors are locked up and unusable, its a risky business)

'

Digi has confirmed in writing that all purchases are direct from the manufacturer,'

They likely have conditioned 'all purchases' in that statement. Many big name distributors also buy from non OEMs as well.

It is just your chance of running into a fake is lower, or you have more of a remedy with them than with a non name seller.

It's hard to tell if they are counterfeits by only looking at the package marking.

The year codes, 610 (2016/week10) and 748(2017/week48) are different. This might even mean they're made or packaged somewhere else on different machines.

You're more likely to encounter discarded chips (eg: out of spec) that some untrustworthy fab still sold by the backdoor. This happens sometimes. Rarely they even get shipped to top tier customers or distributors, that's when the quality department gets very nervous.

A distinction is made between real and fake st products - it is possible when bathing microcircuits in acid. With a dissolving plastic - on a counterfeit chip, an additional crystal will be visible flash memory - soldered directly to the main processor, almost like a sandwich. This chip contains one flint plate.

hi, I am new to ST products, understand that the purchase of genuine products is important, but how to purchase solely individual STM32 MCU alone without the development board ? do you have any recommended and trusted seller websites for small amount purchase ( 10-50 units ) ?

It's hard to know if a chip is original,. The only way is is you send it to the manufacture for analysis.

My experience with 2nd imitation though it seems to function well at the beginning, There are issues of reliability.

It might fail after short time and also quality may vary between batches or even in the same batch.

It looks like some counterfight chip. Try to see if Your programmer Tool can read the type and serial from a 'good' chip and from these cheap ones, I guess, You cannot read from the last one.

I have a hard time believing THIS chip to be counterfeit.

From a cost-benefit point of view, this sounds ridiculous.

Dear Sir;

You may submit an online support ticket, and we can try and help you. We will need photos of the label on the reel, if any, or other shipping labels. Also, please let us know who the vendors are when submitting the support ticket.
