Is X-CUBE-AUDIO-KIT Livetune compatible with both versions of STM32H573I-DK?

Rodo

Hi all,

I'm planning to get STM32H573I-DK to evaluate X-CUBE-AUDIO-KIT Livetune because there are project examples for specific boards and this is one of them. I'll be using an STM32U5A9 MCU eventually and both have an M33 core. This should make it easier to port from one to the other. I see that there are two versions of STM32H573I-DK:

MB1677-H573I-D01 Board schematic has a WM8904 audio codec and MB1677-H573I-C02 Board schematic has a CS42L51 audio codec. This last one is marked as "Discontinued Product" by the manufacturer.

Do the examples for STM32H573I-DK work for either version of the board without any modification or does it require a specific version/codec?

Thanks.

Hello @Rodo

The X-CUBE-AUDIO-KIT supports all boards versions in production.

The question was very specific:

Do the examples for STM32H573I-DK work for either version of the board without any modification or does it require a specific version/codec?

Just because it  "supports all boards" doesn't mean it works out of the box with the provided examples.

Could you please be more specific? If modification of the examples provided is required is not a deal breaker ... I just want to know how much work I'll be getting into before I buy the board. If one version of the board works without modification of the code, I rather get that one. Specially now that you guys increased the price by $20 in the last week.

It is just very frustrating when sales people say yes it work no problem and then I have to spend 10 hours to fix some  issue before it works.

Thanks.

Hello,

You can order the STM32H573I-DK, audio-kit firmware is compatible with the board you will receive.

Hi Rodo,

To get back confidence on what was said before, here is my recommendation when you get the board.

When you get your board, please open the "readme.txt" at the root of the x-cube-audio-kit package and follow the few steps.

1) the other readme.txt in the bin folder will tell you how to flash X-CUBE-AUDIO-KIT-STM32H735G-DK-Designer.hex  on the board.

2) Then, you will be in position to run the firmware and run livetune

3) in livetune,

  • "connect" to the board,
  • "load" the example g711.livetune from the subfolder Middlewares\ST\Audio-Kit\examples\livetunedataflow\References\G711
  • "start"
  • use the mini jack to plug an headphone (if you use loadspeaker, put it far from the microphone, you may get larsen) and hear what the board microphone captures

Best regards

Thanks for this. Unfortunatelly my confidence on ST support regarding MP3 decoding has been less than optimal so far. The whole point of buying STM32H573I-DK was to evaluate the MP3 decoding of Livetune/Audiochain (for an M33 core). But according to your own sidekick there is no native support for MP3 decoding in Livetune/Audiochain. This makes me wonder about the purchase. I'll be asking another more specific question later ... right now I'm mentally exhausted. Again thanks.
