it looks like an issue related to the installation of the STM32 drivers on your laptop.
When you plug the STEVAL-MKI109V3, can you see the STM32 VCOM in the Device manager tree (at leas in Windows OS). This should coincide with the COM3 you see in your screen.
If not, you might need to install the drivers from the folder \DRIVER\STM32_vcp.
If it still doesn't work, you may have two other possibility: first one, is that the firmware on your board is too old for recognizing your board: I suggest you to install the last version you can find in the folder \FIRMWARE\ProfiMEMSTool board; second one, you could try installing the older Unico version that is also available on st.com page, the 9.8.0 ("Select version" menu), and see if you are more lucky.
