Question

STM32CubeMX 6.18.0: NetX Duo IPv6 ND cache sources (nx_nd_cache_*.c) are never generated – link fails

Hello,

When NetX Duo is used with IPv6 enabled, STM32CubeMX does not copy eight ND cache source files into the generated project, so the link fails.

Environment:
  - STM32CubeMX 6.18.0
  - STM32Cube FW_H5 V1.7.0
  - HW: STM32H573I-DK
  - Middleware: ThreadX + NetX Duo, Ethernet interface, LAN8742 PHY
  - NetX Duo settings: NX_DISABLE_IPV6 = false (FEATURE_NX_IPV6 = true), NX_ENABLE_IPV6_MULTICAST = true
  - Toolchains tried: CMake and STM32CubeIDE (same result with both)

These eight files are missing from Middlewares/ST/netxduo/common/src:
    nx_nd_cache_add.c
    nx_nd_cache_add_entry.c
    nx_nd_cache_delete_internal.c
    nx_nd_cache_fast_periodic_update.c
    nx_nd_cache_find_entry.c
    nx_nd_cache_find_entry_by_mac_addr.c
    nx_nd_cache_interface_entries_delete.c
    nx_nd_cache_slow_periodic_update.c

Files that CubeMX does generate call them, so the link fails, e.g.:
in function `_nxd_icmp_enable': undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_fast_periodic_update'
in function `_nx_icmpv6_process_ns': undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_add'
in function `_nx_icmpv6_process_na': undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_find_entry'
in function `_nx_icmpv6_process_ra': undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_find_entry'
    undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_add_entry'
    undefined reference to `_nx_nd_cache_slow_periodic_update'

Could you please check if I had a mistake in .ioc or if it is a CubeMX issue?

Thanks.

Hello @sergiosanri

Let me thank you for posting.

For more investigation, could you please provide the STM32CubeIDE version because I did not get

the same build errors.

Thanks.

Mahmoud

Hello @Mahmoud Ben Romdhane ,

Thanks for your answer.

I was working with the CMake toolchain in VS Code (STM32 extension, GNU Tools for STM32 14.3.1), but I get the same link errors with STM32CubeIDE 1.16.1. I regenerated the project from the same .ioc twice with STM32CubeMX 6.18.0, once with the CMake toolchain and once with STM32CubeIDE, and both fail with the same undefined references.

I attach both example projects so you can reproduce the issue.

Hello @sergiosanri

After investigation, you need to disable [do not generate the main()], and the build will be finished without errors.

I will be waiting for your feedback.

Thanks.

Mahmoud
