Question

[Bug report] Build Analyzer shows "UNKNOWN [unknown type]" when project is built with -funwind-tables

Device: STM32H563ZI
STM32CubeIDE for Visual Studio Code 3.11.0
STM32Cube Build Analyzer 1.5.0
Toolchain: st-arm-clang 21.1.1+st.7

Problem
When the project is compiled with -funwind-tables, the Build Analyzer shows:

UNKNOWN [unknown type] - [ACTIVE]
Project configuration issue.

The Build Analyzer output log shows no error, only:

[starm-readobj] Running command: cube starm-readobj --all --pretty-print --elf-output-style=JSON .../build/Debug/<project>.elf
[starm-readobj] Project extraction succeeded.

Without the flag, the analyzer works normally and shows the memory regions.

The .map file is still generated normally. When I open it manually from VS Code with the Build Analyzer (right-click → Open Build Analysis), the memory regions are shown correctly. Only the automatic analysis of the ELF fails.

How to reproduce

  1. Create a new empty project with the Clang toolchain and build it. The Build Analyzer works.
  2. Add -funwind-tables to the C flags in CMakeLists.txt and rebuild. The Build Analyzer shows “UNKNOWN”.

Removing the flag and rebuilding restores normal behaviour.
