Native Raspberry Pi support is coming to STM32CubeProgrammer, and it’s driven by your feedback.

With STM32CubeProgrammer v2.23, scheduled for June 2026, ST will introduce a Linux Arm 64-bit package available on st.com, enabling STM32 programming directly from Raspberry Pi platforms.

This new package allows you to fully leverage 64-bit Raspberry Pi platforms, including:

  • Standard models (flagship) series: from Raspberry Pi 3B to Raspberry Pi 5.
  • Zero (compact form factor) series: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W.
  • Compute models (industrial & embedded) series: from Raspberry Pi CM3 to Raspberry Pi CM5.

What will be supported?

This first Raspberry Pi release supports all STM32 devices and core programming features:

  • Internal and external flash programming
  • OTP programming
  • Option bytes configuration
  • RDP regression with password (for supported products)

This provides a reliable way to program STM32 devices using a Raspberry Pi–based setup.

Interfaces and connectivity

All existing STM32CubeProgrammer interfaces remain supported and unchanged, including:

  • ST-LINK (SWD/JTAG)
  • J-Link
  • UART
  • USB
  • Bootloader via ST-LINK V3

In addition, this release adds direct GPIO-based SPI and I2C communication, allowing Raspberry Pi systems to connect straight to STM32 bootloader interfaces, without external debug hardware such as ST-LINK V3.

What will not be included in this release?

To keep the package lightweight and optimized for Raspberry Pi:

  • No GUI
  • No debug features (SVD files removed)
  • No debug authentication support
  • No secure firmware install (SFI)

Supported operating systems

  • Raspberry Pi OS (Debian 12 “Bookworm” or later)
  • Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or later

Why this matters

This release enables easier integration of STM32 programming into automation, CI/CD, test benches, and remote maintenance workflows using Raspberry Pi, now with an officially supported toolchain.

We are also aware that some programming service providers and integrators also use Raspberry Pi in their flows. This new package offers them a standardized and supported way to run STM32CubeProgrammer on Arm-based platforms.

The download links and documentation will be shared on st.com and the ST Community as soon as the v2.23 release is available in June 2026.

In the meantime, feel free to use this thread to:

  • Tell us how you plan to use STM32CubeProgrammer on Raspberry Pi
  • Share which additional features would matter most to you in future updates

Thank you again for your continuous feedback and for driving the evolution of our tools.

 Dear all, @aseligmann, @bsuthar,

We would like to apologize for the delay in making the Linux Arm 64-bit package available for download.

A technical issue occurred on our side during the upload process, which prevented the package from being published as planned along with the others.

We have been working on resolving the issue since this morning, the package is finally available under the name “Linux Arm” :

@bsuthar, the “Generic Linux” package is for linux computers. This package includes the GUI & CLI.

The “Linux Arm” package has been built specifically for Arm 64-bit platform, like Raspberry Pi, and is CLI only.

Really sorry for the inconvenience !

Please let us know your thoughts on this first release & support.

@Maxime_BELAVAL , @Amelie ACKERMANN

Its great news…...Kudos to your team.

By Chance any plan to release step-by-Step doc for using CLI on Raspberry Pi ? UM2237 gives brief Steps. Mostly , we planing Python script to execute CLI.

Also, we are Assuming Old Debugger STLink-V2 will be supported..:))) , Means hardware Independent.

Hello @bsuthar, what do you think is missing please ?

The installation procedure is described in Chapter 1.5; please refer to Section 1.5.3, “Debian Package Install.”

Apart from specific new features such as “Direct GPIO bootloader programming on Raspberry Pi” described in Section 3.2.1, all other CLI features behave the same as on PC.

Thank you,

Max

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.

@Maxime_BELAVAL ,

One Quick Observation , V2.23 takes so much time as compare to V2.22 ( windows 64 ) , for Reconnecting MCU & Throwing Error  after setting RDP2. approx 45 seconds by V2.23. while 5 seconds for V2.22 version.

Hello @bsuthar, could you please create a dedicated post on the STM32CubeProgrammer forum : https://community.st.com/stm32cubeprogrammer-mcus-30, including the HW involved on your end and the programming interface ? Our support team will take a look at it.

This Dev News aims to centralize all feedback around the new package itself.

Thank you for your contribution,

Max

Now maybe CubeProgrammer and AI run on the A-core Linux side to program/debug the M-core on STM32MP series in future.

This makes our test automation setup not have to rely on an external system for doing firmware flashing. I am very happy about this news. It also saves us a lot of money on additional test equipment.
