Error while building STM32MP2 Distribution Package 6.2.0

Hello,

 

I’m trying to initially build the Distribution-Package 6.2.0 (v26.02.18) as stated in the Wiki (https://wiki.st.com/stm32mpu/wiki/STM32MPU_Distribution_Package#Initializing_the_OpenEmbedded_build_environment)

I am using a VM in Virtual Box running Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS.

I attached the log file.

I have not built this specific package before but I do live and breath Ubuntu so I will see if I can help.

Would you be able to give me some specifics on which steps you have completed and which specific command is giving you that log?

I did a clean install on the Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS in VirtualBox (My host system is Windows 11). Thereafter I updated and installed all the needed packages for the Yocto-Building process.

And then I followed the mentioned commands here (https://wiki.st.com/stm32mpu/wiki/STM32MPU_Distribution_Package) just by changing to version 6.2.0 instead of 6.2.1 with the following commands:

repo init -u https://github.com/STMicroelectronics/oe-manifest.git -b refs/tags/openstlinux-6.6-yocto-scarthgap-mpu-v26.02.18
repo sync

DISTRO=openstlinux-weston MACHINE=stm32mp2 source layers/meta-st/scripts/envsetup.sh

 

The error occurs at around task 2780 when running: bitbake st-image-weston

 

I did not change any files in the downloaded repo.

Can you tell me if this runs sucessfully

bitbake -c cleansstate linux-libc-headers

 

Could you also confirm if your build paths and all relevant files are truly native to your sandbox? Windows does not like sharing files for operations such as this.

The command runs successfully. When I restart the building process afterwards I run into the same issue.

All files are on the virtual disk (vdi).

With that information I checked for compatibiIity, it appears there is some documented conflicts between the newer host tools and the older pseduo version shipped with OpenSTLinux 5.0.8. Could you please run the command below?

tar --version

If this returns 1.35 or greater than I believe you may need to downgrade to tar 1.34 to get this to work. Your log shows some commands that are native to 1.35 and the responses are consistent with the differences between 1.34 and 1.35. They handle files differently.

Alright I actually got tar version 1.35. I will try the build after downgrading to 1.34.
