What are the roles of U12 and U250 in the circuit diagram?

Is the U250 a spare device?

It is a ONE or the OTHER choice

U12 MT25QL512ABB1EW9 (MICRON)

OR

U250 MX25L51245G (MACRONIX)

The devices have different physical footprints, the PCB had both land patterns to accommodate either device.
