Question

UART pins on STM32L4P5RE (LQFP64)

Hello,

I'm trying to understand the UART availability on the STM32L4P5RE in the LQFP64 package.

In the datasheet, Table 2 contains the note:

"For 48-pin and 64-pin packages only 1x UART is available."

I am not sure which UART this note refers to.

Looking at Table 15 (pin assignment), I can see:

  • Pin 12: PA2 = USART2_TX
  • Pin 13: PA3 = USART2_RX

and also:

  • Pin 42: PA9 = USART1_TX
  • Pin 43: PA10 = USART1_RX

This seems to indicate that both USART1 and USART2 pins are available on the package.

My questions are:

  1. Which UART is referred to by the "1x UART available" note in Table 2?
  2. Are both USART1 and USART2 functional on the STM32L4P5RE LQFP64 package?
  3. If only one UART is available, which instance is actually implemented?
  4. Is the note referring to a peripheral named UART4/UART5, while USART1 and USART2 remain available?

I would appreciate any clarification on how this note should be interpreted.

Thank you.

USART1/2 are USARTs not UARTs. They are available (and can be used in UART mode).

The only UART available is UART4. UART5 is not available on those chips.
