    What frequency range, and to what accuracy/precision?

    i am trying to measure period. frequency range is 1Hz to 1KHz, is it possible to measure the freq accurately with 16 bit timer?

    So why would you need two counters? 16-bit wouldn't overflow at either a 1 second, or a 1 minute inspection interval.

    Or are you actually trying to measure the period, duty cycle, or pulse width?
