TIM1 is driving me crazy

I have been struggling with TIM1 Output Compare, on and off, for a long time. Nothing I do seems to be capable of driving CH1 output compare to pin A8. If I change to TIM2 and use A0, everything is great. But not with TIM1.

TIM1 is definitely running. It's just not driving to A8. Is there anything special about A8? I am setting it up as Alternate Function Push-Pull.

Well, I encountered the same problem in the past.

It turned out that it requires to clear (:-o) CC1E bit of TIM1_CCER register in order to get a signal on the output.
