Hi ST expert,

I am developing a 3P4W Smart power meter C&I class, we are planning to design a multi-rate data sampling! S1 for power metrology by dedicated metering IC ADE9000, S2 for feature-stream acquisition NILM inference at 4 kHz continues sampling rate by internal ADC of STM32H755 and S3 for transient capture at 20kHz triggered capture by ADS131M08. Communication that STM32H775 would handle including Wi-Fi, RS485, 100Mbit ETH, SD card 32GB(eMMC optional) status LED x3 and USB-C for programming and debugging. We also have AI model to build into the MCU for edge inference, time series model! I not sure if STM32H755 series can handle all this tasks or not. Could you please help me evaluate this platform for my design? Additional info, please let me know. Thank you.

Hello @Adirut_Chongsa and welcome to the ST community,

Hard to confirm at 100% that STM32H755 can handle all the the tasks of your application based on the description you provide. Only you have the visibility on how each task in your application huge is. So need to start to evaluate yourself by running some tests. So purchase a Nucleo-H755 board and start testing.

As STM32H755 is a dual core MCU, the only advice I can give is to balance/split the tasks as following:

  • CM4 manages all the communications: WIFI, RS485, the Ethernet, the USB, etc ..
  • CM7 will be responsible for the huge computation and AI.

Enable the Cache from CM7 side and the ART from CM4 side to increase the performance of the MCU.

I invite you to refer to the application note:

AN5557 “STM32H745/755 and STM32H747/757 lines dual-core architecture” / look at the section 4 Application partitioning examples

Hope that helps.

The 3× ADCs with 16-bit max. resolution (up to 36 channels, up to 3.6 MSPS) would be a definite advantage. Specifically 16-bit ADC rather than 12-bit.

It has SDMMC for SD Card, ETHER MAC, small interface IC for RS485, WiFi you would have to plan that.

There are other MCU’s that have Neural Art etc for your model.

For what you intend to do quality of ADC is important so having 16-bit ADC’s is a big advantage.
