What do you thing about something like switch which can connect any peripheral io's to any package pins? especially in small packages?

What do you think about something like switch which can connect any peripheral io's to any package pins? especially in small packages?

These types of cross-bar switch arrangements would consume a lot of silicon, which is why you see a small, but manageable subset. ST on occasion has made some poor choices in this regard, but it's hard to make everyone happy.
