Do I need a license to use SDMMC?

Regarding the SD standard, membership is required as a license to the SD Association, but if you access the SD card etc. using the HAL function provided by your company, it conflicts with the SD Association standard, or your company Will there be problems such as violating the license of the?

This would be my understanding:

If you are using built-in SD peripheral in a STM32, it will be fine, since ST should have paid the license to implement it in hardware.

Winfred LU,

Please confirm whether the STM32 IC purchase includes licensing for the features in the MCU (SDCard, Display Interfaces, Communications Interfaces, etc.).

[Paul1]

Get an official answer from ST support on license requirements.

MCUs include many features, often unused in the products. Most manufacturers don't pay fees for all these unused options, that is up to the customer. Also which manufacturer should pay: MCU, Interface IC, Connector, etc.

We specifically dropped SDCard and HDMI development because fees were too much for our specialty products.

Instead we use USB FlashDrives for our removable storage, and a low cost HMI supplier for our displays.

Thank you for many posts

The MPU currently used is "STM32L496VGT6"

It also adopted an interface for SD and CAN.

In using this MPU, we are developing in the development environment built in the IDE environment provided by your company, and we plan to install it in the device as it is.

In this case, is it okay to understand that the license will be paid by your company and there is no burden on us?

Nobody responding to you works for ST

Your Legal / IP Licensing people should work directly with ST's, you should work via your local sales office/contact.

We understand.

We will consult with the place of purchase.

Thank you very much for your goodwill answers.

Also, if you have any questions, we will be grateful for your help.

This time, thank you very much.
