Question

New STM32H7P & G5: no more SAIs - will that continue?

Heyho,

just checked the new STM32 familiy members, H7 P and G5.

I haven’t found any SAIs (“Serial Audio Interface”) in both, and that is frustrating.

Is that a trend that will continue?

That question mostly goes to ST!

@STea @Peter BENSCH & others

Why I care:

the SAIs provide good internal sync features compared to the rather “naked” I2S peripherals (synced by the the master’s clocks via GPIOs, terrible for PCB layout), and the SAIs have some other nice features.

Therefore, the SAIs are a good option for synchronous data acquisition of multiple channels, not only audio.

Hello @LCE ,

@STea is no more part of the community.

Meanwhile, your question is relevant as SAI is not only used with audio but also (perhaps) with some external ADC and DACs that could be driven over SAI interface. I don’t have the visibility of the direction of this but I’ll forward your remark internally to who go the concern.

@mƎALLEm I forgot you as a knowledgable ST person who is also around here a lot!  STea was simply the first who came to my mind.

Thanks, please keep us up to date - and tell the STM32 developers that we still want SAIs in the future! :-)
