Interfacing the STP1612PW05 16-channel LED Driver

Can anyone point me to a more detailed interfacing document than what is provided in the datasheet for this chip? Specifically, I need to understand (preferably by real-world program examples) how to program the SPI provided by the chip so as to use all the chip's features. I'm fluent in C/C++ and have reasonable familiarity and experience with embedded microprocessors.

There is an app note on using the chip.  I am still trying to find the source code for the LED Moving Message Evaluation Board from ST. The processor board is STEVAL-ILL024V1  If I had the source code for this, it would be very easy to implement a high performance driver using DMA to drive the STP1612
