Flash Loader Demonstrator cannot open port

I have a Win10 notebook computer. When I run the Flash Loader Demonstrator, it correctly finds the com port being used (the only one) but when I click 'Next' it always says ​"Cannot open the com port, the port may be used by another application". This is from a clean boot, and even on other computers. How do I fix this?

The Demostrator app is deprecated, try using the STM32 Cube Programmer in UART mode

Unfortunately, I still get the same error message:

"Cannot open port COM3, it may be used by another application or the port name is invalid."

What's the COM port associated with? An FTDI or SiLabs adapter?

Can you open the port in RealTerm or some other terminal app?

Is it associating it with some other driver, Microsoft Serial Mouse, or Location API, or such?

Check Tasks and Services that could be running.

Failing that you're likely going to need to get your IT staff to determine what is attaching.
