Flash Debug/Ram Debug

Can someone please explain to me how to configure your program to download in either flash debug mode or ram debug mode, as seen in the example programs in STM32-SK. I am very unsure which source/include file configures the program for ram or flash debug.

I haven't found much documentation to address my question, so if you could please point me towards some helpful documentation, I would greatly appreciate it. Any tips are welcome.
