I am trying to use the STEVAL-ESC001V1 with the motor profiling tool but I can't get the motor profiler to connect to the controller. I am using a ST-LINK/V2 with the STSW-LINK009 driver on Win7. I am able to connect to the controller using the STM32 ST-LINK Utility so I think the wiring is correct and I am missing something on the motor profiler side of things. Any ideas on what the issue might be? I am getting 'Connection Error! Please, check the connection between the board and PC.'

Correct. You also need a USB->serial adapter connected to the UART pins. They are unfortunately 1.27mm pitch so it's a bit fiddly.

The question has been moved from the "Motor Control Hardware" section to the "STM32 Motor Control" section (the question is about the STM32 MC SDK).
