Why were the github pages for STM32 Cube firmwares disabled due to a DMCA takedown?

Hi all,

I find it curious that the code has been taken down. I mean unless it wasn't ST that had uploaded it in the first place.

Can someone from ST explain the situation? I am one of the people that had forked the libraries because I thought it was a way to have latest changes.

Thank you very much for your time,

Sat

Hello,

I confirm that ST has requested the closure (DMCA take-down) because this GitHub organization was a 'pirate' initiative.

ST is currently working on an overall reorganization of its publications related to the STM32Cube offer. This will include a co-development inititiave and will add to the current STM32Cube Firmware packages a new model of delivery of STM32Cube Firmware components, that will ease the customer experience.

Currently in the prototyping phase, we cannot commit a date yet.

Regards,

You don't own any of the copyrights, or any other rights to the code, this should hardly be a surprise or curious. Doesn't GitHub have some threshold conditions about being a rights holder? Or paid accounts for commercial projects?

I'd assume they didn't, it would be expensive, and I'm pretty sure you could determine who uploaded it.

This probably isn't the place for this, I don't think ST legal team hangs here, try a corporate office. The reps supporting your commercial account?

Clive,

ST already has a github account:

https://github.com/STMicroelectronics

A lot of stuff is already there.

Would be exciting if they could make a commitment for the STM32 firmware...  let's wait.

Regards,

Well how do we know

/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2FSTMicroelectronics

is an official STM account?

I thought that the site taken down was official as well.
